The decision to provide free natural gas in Turkey for a month and within the needs of kitchens and water heating for a year came into force after it was published in the Turkish Official Gazette, in implementation of a promise made by President Erdogan to the Turkish people on the occasion of connecting the Black Sea gas to the local network.
Under the presidential decree, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources will cover the first bills for natural gas consumption in residences and places of worship between April 24 and May 31.
The state will also provide 25 cubic meters of natural gas used in the kitchen and hot water for homes and places of worship for free, until May 1, 2024.
On April 20, Erdogan gave a speech during the ceremony for connecting the Black Sea gas to the local network, two badges related to the extracted natural gas, as Erdogan announced the provision of natural gas, within the needs of kitchens and water heating, free of charge to all homes in Turkey for a year. He also mentioned that the government will not charge for natural gas in all its uses for a month throughout Turkey.
And in late 2022, Turkey announced the discovery of an additional 170 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea, bringing the total volume of discoveries to 710 billion.
